| Greenbrier is a thorny vine that grows in thickets, along roadsides and in dry woods of the South Texas Plains and Edwards Plateau. The stem of the vine is very stout with whitish hairs and four-angled. The leaves are 1 1/2 to 4 1/2 inches long and 2/3 to 3 inches wide. The spines are solid and are dark green or black. The small flowers bloom from April to June. The black fruit is a good source of food for many species of birds and matures in September to November. | |
