Grand Cayman

It is January 15, 2020 and we are making our second visit to the island (first trip March 2, 2017). When we arrived there were two bigger ships already docked. The largest of the two was the MSC Meraviglia. Grand Cayman is the largest of the three Cayman Islands and the location of the territory's capital, George Town. In relation to the other two Cayman Islands, it is approximately 75 miles southwest of Little Cayman and 90 miles southwest of Cayman Brac.

Grand Cayman encompasses 76% of the territory's entire land mass. The island is approximately 22 miles long with its widest point being 8 miles wide. The elevation ranges from sea level at the beaches to 60 feet above sea level on the North Side's Mastic Trail.

The Cayman Islands is considered to be part of the geographic Western Caribbean Zone as well as the Greater Antilles. The territory is often considered a major world offshore financial haven for international businesses and many wealthy individuals.[

The Cayman Islands has a tropical wet and dry climate, with a wet season from May to October, and a dry season that runs from November to April. Seasonally, there is little temperature change. A major natural hazard is the tropical cyclones that form during the Atlantic hurricane season from June to November.
